POETRY-its about damn time!

By

I used to write all the damn time. From early childhood, until I was in my early thirties. I was pretty good at it. WELL At least, according to my friends and professors. I would spend hours in my room writing plays, short stories and poems. I even started a few novels or two back in the day. Somehow, I got out of it. Daily life, work responsibilities, family responsibilities-other things take priority. This is the same with my visual art. I used paint and draw daily and I took so many years off before I started Rebekah Jane Art. Life gets in the way sometimes, but I feel that if you are truly passionate about something, you will find your way back to it.

ANYWAYS!!! the point of this post is talk about my writing goals for the rest of this year and share a poem or two. I am working on a collection of poems about Summer. I challenged myself to write a poem a week for the next 12 weeks. Or maybe two if I have the time. The theme being summer is about all the good and bad memories. It encompasses feelings from the past and present. It’s overall a celebration of my favorite season. This is the first collection I am going to attempt to self-publish. I will not share every poem on here-but just a few sprinkles of the collection.

Below is a poem I wrote about last summer and our trip to Ohiopyle, PA. We were hiking and got soaked about halfway though the hike. One of those pop-up Pennsylvania thunderstorms that caught us off guard. We decided to embrace being drenched instead of being mad about it. After the hike, we took a dip at the natural water slides in the park.

I hope you enjoy and feedback is always appreciated.

Perfect day
Rebekah Richmond

I softly close my eyes as the rain drips from my over bleached hair
Sunbeams are pulsating through my body as we cruise out of the trees
I feel warm
Happy
I stare at the water beads dripping across his bronzed forearm
Fit and tan gripping the steering wheel while the wind whips through my scalp
I lean back into this perfect moment
I inhale Summer in all its glory
Sunshine has penetrated every pore
Simple pleasures you take for granted as a child
And chase as an adult
We are complete in this moment
Soaked in adventure
Together with nowhere to go
But everything ahead of us
