Snow day 2026

By

Happy snow day friends! For those of you who live in South Central Pa, we were preparing for “Snowmageddon” we came up a little short. 10 inches isn’t small potatoes but not the  2 feet we were expecting.

I spent the morning painting in my home studio. In the afternoon, I stomped around town in my snowshoes and baked cookies. Not a bad day overall. I am starting to get anxious for spring. However, I have been trying to embrace winter more. I do not want to wish the days away.

In the spirit of embracing the season, I spent Saturday morning outside in 9 degree weather, competing in a snow shoe 5k. This race is not easy, as there is fair amount of incline. But the feeling of accomplishment, free hot cider and the memories made with my family is worth it.

Embracing each season is something that I strive for. I can easily fall into the trap of wishing my life away. Wishing for warmer weather, wishing for vacation, wishing for the end of the work week- you get the idea. One of my goals this year is to live more in the moment and enjoy each day. I packed January full of activities and moments.I couldn’t be happier with all that I accomplished.

Besides my snowshoeing, I taught a vision board class, made homemade papers, went to trivia with new friends, went to a craft show, started a new collection of paintings and joined the Hershey Art Association. I also read 2 books (working on 3#) and watched a lot of football. January used to be my least favorite month. Now, I am glad that I can look back on it with a smile and a sense of pride. I had fun and worked hard to not sink deep into a sea of seasonal depression.

Looking forward to February, I have more classes scheduled. I will have art on display. I am thinking of taking a pottery class. I have a fun day planned with family. I will post more on my February art exhibition and classes next week, until then- stay warm, eat some cookies and enjoy life!

Cheers!
